Good car, arguably better than the ST150 version.

If I was in the market for a small hatch I would be looking at the Fiesta and the Zetec-S is the model I'd choose.

Looks good, has reasonable running costs, should be reliable and fun to drive. A cut above the equivalent french cars in terms of quality and better than the Vauxhall Corsa. Better looking and more fun than either a Yaris or a Jazz.

I would assume that by ticking over you do in fact mean cranking over? it very much appears you are suffering a low battery voltage and considering the new battery and pedal on clutch redoing friction etc my own opinion would be to say you are not doing enough mileage to recharge the battery on a trip to trip basis. most cars need at least 6 miles to fully recharge a battery and more if being used for very cold start sand heated windscreens etc. it may be worth investing in a solar charger or trickle charger. they are fairly cheap and easy to use. the solar can recharge at the station whilst you are at work. trickle charger over weekends if not using the car. also we should be very stringent if car is used mainly for short journeys on servicing etc. a cold engine wil take more battery power to turn than a hot one. a cold battery wil give less power output than a warm one. add the two and you can see with short trips not charging battery fully how it would seem to give this sort of starting problem.

Fair enough things as a run-around, and trustworthy.
Not for whizzing down an autobahn at flat out, though.
They have been known to blow up the little engine.
