I HAVE BEEN VACATIONING IN PUERTO RICO FOR 10 YEARS. SO HERE IS MY BEST ADVISE TO YOU.

MOST PEOPLE WHO PLAN ON VISING ANYWHERE OTHER THAN THE SAN JUAN AREA RENT A CAR FOR THEIR WHOLE VACATION. TAXI'S ARE VERY EXPENSIVE ONCE YOU LEAVE THE SAN JUAN AREA EXAMPLE

SAN JUAN TO FAJARDO BY CAB WILL COST BETWEEN $60.00- $80.00 (DEPENDING ON TIME OF YEAR AND TRAFFIC) EACH-WAY

IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING DOING TOURS BOOKED THRU THE HOTEL YOU PLAN TO AT. PLEASE NOTE THAT THEY ARE REALLY EXPENSIVE AND IF YOU HAVE A CAR YOU CAN DO MOST OF THE EXACT SAME TOUR FOR LITTLE OR NO MONEY I. E. HIKING THE RAIN FOREST IS FREE IF YOU DRIVE YOUR SELF THERE !!!

BOOK WITH CHARLIE'S A LOCAL COMPANY AS THEY ARE A REPUTABLE COMPANY AND OFFER THE LOWEST RATES.

By all means so you can go visit all the beautiful places and sights Puerto Rico has to offer.
PS- buy a map so you won't get lost, and if you do just stop at a gas station and ask for directions, puertorrican people are very humble people and are very eager to help.
Hope you enjoy Puerto Rico.

No see what you wanna do is hop in a cab. Renting a car is allot. But taking a taxi in Puerto Rico means that you dont pay by the mile. If you walk up to a cab driver they will give you a flat rate to get to your destination. It is cheeper then a car. I hope you have a great time. Don't 4get to visite El Morro.

There is alot to see on the island and its hard to get around without a car. However, if you are staying at a resort and want to just stay there then a car is unnecessary. Word to the wise, Puerto Rican drivers tend to be a little crazy (I'm from there) so if you drive be prepared to drive defensively.
