Since they (the Americans) didn't build The Statue of Liberty, I am sure someone else would have given us something just as nice.

The Statue of Liberty was not built by Americans. It was a gift TO America FROM France.

La liberté éclairant le monde. A lighthouse. France gave us the Statue of Liberty in 1886. Frederic Bartholdi sculpted her. Apparently, the statue's face resembles his mother. The internal structure was engineered by Gustave Eiffel. He also built the Eiffel tower.

I think, as a tribute to all ancestory, it would be the Statue of Liberty no matter what. The Statue of Liberty represents the freedom that the ancestors of all of us coming from different lands fought for.

There's the Washington Monument,the White House,Lincoln's Memorial,Air Force Memorial,to name a few...Union Station,the National Archives, the Mall that the Smithsonian Institute(s) surround.

It could be a statue of a typical American home with a mom, dad, and two teenage kids, each entertaining themselves in a separate room of the house. The daughter could be on the cell phone in her room, the son on a video game in his room, the mom could be watching tv in the living room, and the dad could be on his secretary in the rumpus room.
