Because toaster makers are evil. My mum has a big toaster that fits four slices in and if you're only making one or two slices you can turn them sideways and toast the top part as well.

because you probably have an old toaster. there are toasters now that have bigger slots for bagels and thick bread. i had the same problem and went to wal-mart and bought a new toaster recently and i can fit even the biggest bagel in !!!!!

By a bigger toaster, or cut the top off of your bread.

The bread's too big, or the toaster's too small. Change the dynamic of one of those elements.

Use a bigger toaster. You can also toast bread with a hot pan.

Try putting it in sideways. Should fit then. If not use your grill instead and buy some smaller bread for next time!

I have found that if you turn it on its side then it will fit for most pieces of bread on the market.

buy some warburtons toastie bread and it will fit perfectly

( I want some toast now w/ peanut butter (smooth))
