I was thinking of changing my light brown hair to like a mahogeny or chestnut for the fall/winter. Just for a change. My normal stylist charges $50.00 and I just can't afford that right now. Should I go for it with a at-home dye?

I had highlights done about 3 months ago , My hair is naturally dark brown and my roots started showing (a lot). I didnt wanna go back to the hairdresser and pay $150 again to have it redone so I bought a Highlight kit from the store. I believe it was $15 bux. I did it myself and it actually looks good. My hair was very light and now it's brown with subtle highlights. I like it, and im probably gonna keep it darker during the winter and redo my highlights around spring time. I thnk you should definetly get an at honme hair dye. If you have trouble, just ask somebody for help to dye your hair uniformlly.

This is a simple question. Many drugstores make at home dye kits all you need to do is pick out the color of your choice and follow the instructions on the back. They can cost up to $4-10. My mom dye's her hair with the drugstore kits and they work really well. Also you need to buy a color shield shampoo and conditioner.

The at home dye is a whole lot cheaper and doesn't take as long. It's really easy just make sure that you read all of the instructions. I love the herbal essence dyes. They don't make that horrible smell that salon dyes do. Garnier has good dye, too! Umm...there are a few more that I've used, but I can't remember their names.

I stopped having a salon do mine 'cause of the money. I do it myself and if you read the instructions or call the 800 number on all the boxes you shouldn't have any trouble. My only suggestion is that you stay with a good brand like L'oreal, Revlon etc. even if it's more money than a cheaper brand it's still a lot less than the salon--and no tipping either!!!

I would say go for the at-home dye. I would suggest having a friend do it though, because they can actually see your hair, and know if they missed spots, etc. And I think you would like the results better.

Definitely. I dye my own hair all the time, and it always works out fine. Just be sure to get a decent brand, and read the instructions :-) Have fun!

I don't have experience of this. But judging by the vast number of hair coloring products in the stores lots of people color their hair themselves.
I suggest you have a go doing it yourself. You'll never know until you try.
Hope it turns out successfully.

yes you can. but it is harder to get the exact color you want at home. i wanted a medium nice brown color and it came out really really dark. almost black.
