The red poppies are a symbol of rememberance for those who fought for us and our freedom. It commemorates people of ALL religions as it is not just Christians who have fought for us! The flower and colour comes from the poppies growing on the Fields Flanders after WW1 and this is when the Poppy Appeal began. This is some petty think tank trying to turn the Poppy and the work of the Royal British Legion into a Christian symbol and organisation which they are not whilst trying to sound PC. This is wrong, I will not wear a white Poppy I will wear (I actually am!) wear a RED one. THe white one is supposed to symbolise peace and the red war apparently well if thats the case I'm remembering how horrific war actually is and will try to learn from the confilcts of the past to prevent them in the future!

The red poppy is in remembrance of the blood spilt in two world wars, so as to give you the freedom to wear a white poppy. The red poppy does not signify that you support wars! The white poppy is the product of liberal types who would not fight for freedom anyway and people who think that wearing the white poppy makes them look cool.

They say that the white poppy is for peace......however...
The red poppy is not anti peace, so the white poppy is superfluous.
The red poppy is to remember and honour those who have fought and died, so that others can live in peace.
It is a symbol for rememberance day.
If others wish to have a seperate day to honour 'peace', let them have it when it will not get mixed up with a day to honour fallen heroes.

I used to buy them but now i think it seems a bit pretentious, it's implying that the people who wear red poppies are pro-war and enjoy bloodshed. Red poppies have greater meaning for me because red is the colour of the blood which was spilt, and the colour of the poppies in Flanders' Field. You can be anti-war and still wear the red poppy. Why can't people be united in rememberance rather than showing off how 'morally superior' they are compared to other people?

I've just been reading about it on BBC news. Something to do with red poppies being linked to christianity apparently and that we should wear white for peace rather than crying over the past.
Frankly I'll carry on wearing my red one during the remembrance period as the whole point is to honor the dead.
I would wear a white one year round if they were available but have never seen them for sale.

Poppy's day is not a religious symbol.
The original red is to make planet earth bright and cheerful with celebration of thanks giving and honouring the fallen and survivors of "Freedom Fighters" for the liberation of Freedom in any conflicts on planet earth.
It is a for the little ones to remind them of that Freedom which does not change with time but stays in time on planet earth.
It's only those who were at loss on what Poppy's day is all about were kicking their own butts in making a monkey out of themselves in planet of apes.

You wear a white poppy if you want to remember the people who have been affected by war throughout recent history, but don't agree with the wars themselves. That way, you can be thankful without condoning violence.

The white poppy signifies peace and rememberance of those who died in wars. Are not wars fought to bring about peace?
