I had to give a nine year old boy his bath last weekend while baby sitting him and was shocked to see he had was able to have an erection, i was so embarresed, he didnt seem to know what was going on. Is this normal for a nine year old and what should I have done or said? I have been baby sitting him for years and now this. What do I do in the future? I am supposed to be in the bathroom with him, he washes himself, but i noticed him washing down there and! When do boys know there that things work there?

Yes boys can have erections from before birth
as to when they understand that depends on the child and parents - if the child is inquisitive he will ask questions and hopefully parents will answer

do the parents want you to bath him??

a nine year old should be able to wash by himself with you checking him rather than standing over him but for your own sake be careful how you touch him.
maybe you should clarify with the parents how much they want you to be involved ie in the bathroom or not

Let me tell you, my son, who is five, has had erections since birth. He wakes up with them. It is normal for a nine year old boy to get one of those while taking a bath. There is nothing wrong about it, though I would talk with his parents about maybe you not being in the bathroom while he takes a bath (this could be uncomfortable for him, too) if it is still embaressing. He is nine, and should be able to bathe himself (I have an eight year old that takes a bath by herself (sans me) and she doesn't want any help nor needs any help)

I think you should not be in there when he is bathing at all. He is old enough to wash himself and you should tell his parents that you feel uncomfortable with being in the bathroom with him as he is getting older. As far as the other goes even tiny newborn boys can get an erection.

Wow that is tuff. He is old enough to be in the bathroom himself. Just let him keep the door open if he needs to call for you. That's what I do with my daughter, and she is 7 and she has been taking her own bath since she was 6 talk to the parents and tell them don't avoid it or it will always be an uncomfortable and awkward feeling. good luck!!! And yes they do know that things are working down there.

Yes, it's normal. The penis can start working at nine, or even younger.

A nine year old shouldn't require a babysitter's supervision in the bath.

Why were you bathing a 9 year old, he's plenty old enough to do that himself. And yes that is normal.

You can tell you haven't been around children much!!! Babies get erections, it is normal. This boy should have been washing himself completely and totally, what were you doing???

Babies can have erections so a 9 year old is not a surprise. Why would anyone need to be washing a 9yo?

i'm sure he doesn't know yet but just to be safe, tell his parents that you don't deel comfortable being in there while he is bathing anymore, he is 9, he should be able to do this kinda stuff alone. seriously. he knows what to do and what not to do. he can do it byhimself . it is normal, for 9 yr.old boys to have this happen. my oldest son is 5 and he gets them from time to time, i make him go potty and then it is gone. but anyways, talk to his parents and tell them about what happened and tell them that you feel uncomfortable and either ask them to sit in there with him before you get there or tell them that he can do it by himself. hope this helps
