Well I have no choice to take an airplane since I'm moving from Pittsburgh, PA to San Diego, CA and my dad is getting a job down there. My parents are driving and want me and my sisters and brother, neice and nephews to fly down there. I am very scared. So is my sister that is why she wanted me to come down there on the plane with her. I'm scared of heights alot. I would take a train but my dad is on one and he said that he can't take a shower for 2 1/2 days!!! I can't do that, smell my odor, plus someone elses.

Any advice for airplane fear?

You may have to overcome your fear of heights and believe it or not airplane are the safest means of transportation. Have someone come along with you for support and talk over with you about your fear. I hope this helps you out.

If you're just afraid of heights, then you won't mind an airplane ride at all. I myself have a healthy fear of heights, (as should all sane humans) but I get along with airplanes just fine. Heck, I always ask for a window seat.

On the other hand, if you have a fear of crashing, then there's really no way around that.

But since you only mention a fear of heights, I think it won't be a problem for you. It's like being on a boat: if you're inside, you don't really see the waves. Just make sure you get an aisle seat.

Nothing to it. Sit in an aisle seat or close the blind so you can't see out the windows that well. Just keep in mind that people fly all over the world everyday and statistically it is far safer than driving. Think about it. You hear about car accidents everyday just in your own city or town there are several every day. If you have a laptop or portable DVD player bring it along to occupy your mind. A good book is an option as well.

There is no need to be frighened. Milions of people all over the world fly every day. Flying is the safest mean of transportation aviable. Its a bigger risk that the train will crash than that the airplane will If you can try to find a book that is writen for those that are afraid of flying and explain what flying is all about, there is a lot of them. I'm 52 and I have the same problems. I hate to fly. Maybe tell the flight attendant that you are nervous and she can periodically check on you and reasasure you. If I were going to fly I would go get traquilizers from a doctor!

I would be more scared driving than taking a plane. You are much safer in an airplane than in a car.

You are just going to have to do it to get over your fear. It's not nearly as bad as most people think.
