I am working out again and am serious about it this time, and I am cutting out junk food. How long will it be before I see some results?!?!

No.. they say that 20 minutes a day is good enough but thats BUNK.. if you really want to lose weight by exercise, 20 minutes of mild cardio is just enough to get your bod warmed up enough to start losing calories. Of course your results may differ because its all about metabolism. if you are just starting out I would start out with the 20 min, then 30, and eventually work your way up to 60 minutes. When you can do that however you may decide and I would recommend someth more vigorous.. like a stair master..

I could burn as many calories on a stair master in 20 minutes as i could in an hour of treadmill!

Good luck and stick with it... its worth it really!!

As far as how long? That really depends on how hard you try, and how well you stick to it... but if your agressive about it.. 4 to 6 weeks will start showing you some results in the mirror... also please remember this... go by the mirror and not by the scales, especially if you weight train as well.. which I would also recommend.. cardio alone just never seems to be enough.

I think 15 minutes a day is enough. Especially if you're just starting to get back into it. Being healthy and exercising is a life long habit, not something you do for a while to 'get in shape'. If you start with 15 minutes now, you'll be on the road to a more healthy lifestyle and that is much more important than the actual amount you are exercising for each session.

The real misperception in trying to be healthy by exercising is that people want to 'work out' and not change their eating habits and other 'life' habits that got them to the condition they're in. Most people want one solution to fix something, instead of looking at the overall activities that produce a result.

To tell you the truth, the best way to kick start any type of health regimen is to do a Lemonade fast (see below). You can healthfully lose a lot of weight in a short amount of time while at the same time, keep up your normal schedule and actually have more energy than you did before you started the fast. You can easily lose about a pound a day on a fast. Also, the fast will clean out the bad toxins that are in your body from the 'junk' food you've eaten over the years. (Everyone will recommend seeing a physician before starting a fast, and I do, too, but you should know about how healthy you are before starting). And don't be scared about fasting. There are so many misperceptions regarding fasting it's not even funny. You will not be starving on a fast. Because you can have as much of the delicious lemonade as you want, you never feel hungry. What you feel instead is that you 'miss' food for a few days in the beginning, but you're not starving to death.

Lemonade Fast: Go to a health store (or maybe you can buy it on Amazon) and buy the book called, "The Master Cleanser". I can't remember the authors name right now, however. The book is small with a yellow cover. It was written in the 1970's and is as great and healthy today as it was when it came out.

And then after the fast, make sure you incorporate healthier habits into your life. No 'soda', no 'junk' food, no 'fast' food, etc. Essentially keep out all processed 'white' flour and keep sugar to a minimum.

I could go on and on.

Congratulations on starting on your road to health. It's a great way to live!!!

It would be better if you could do 15 minutes twice a day for a total of 30 minutes (or 30 minutes all at once). It will depend on how hard you are working on the treadmill - speed and incline. Obviously, the more effort you put in the more results you will see. It will probably take 2-3 weeks to see results.

It depends what you do in the 15 mins on the treadmill.

What you have to aim for is to get your heart pumping so to do that find a setting on your treadmill that you find slightly hard going and keep at it.Aim to be slightly out of breath through the whole 15 mins workout.

From the very first time you do this you'll reap the benifits wether you relalise it or not.

Chillax, all you did was have one binge. We all do it. I'd guess that you did it because you have more than likely put yourself through nutritional hell lately, and abstinence from all these things (you secretly love to eat)... pushed you to your 'breaking point' and you gave in!.. you're only human ;) Several tips to help abstain from bad foods. Firstly, do not have those foods around to begin with, stock up on lots of healthier foods you can eat in abundance (like the oats you mentioned). Secondly, have cheat days. These can be amazing if you really plan them out. And if you zig-zag your calories that can allow you, a truly all you can eat day! If you have your regular cheat day once a week you will lessen the instances such as those of today, where you binged and now feel annoyed with yourself. Whether or not you choose to put so much stress on your body with that amount of exercise is up to you, but by simply going back to watching what you eat, or I dare say having a fast day, would easily set you back on track towards your lower body fat goal.

When boredom, depression, or perhaps stress causes cravings, find a nonfood way to meet them such as going for a walk, calling a friend, taking a bath, reading a book, or even doing some yoga.

Muscle mass burns up more calories, so include three 20-minute strength-training sessions weekly.
