Possible placements for the choir loft:

1. In the balcony, out of the congregation's sight.
2. In the chancel area, to one side of the altar.
3. In the chancel area, split onto both sides of the altar
4. In the center of the chancel area (behind a central pulpit).
5. No choir loft (choir sits in the congregation).
6. I prefer having no choir.

Which do you prefer and why?

generally in a balcony out of sight... generally leaving the focus on God, try not to make things too much like a 'show' and more 'worshipful'

there is an aufience of one and it is God

but it's ok to be flexible and this is just a preference. For children, I might do the opposite... if it is a vacation bible school or special children event, perhaps for the sake of concentration I would prefer the musicians be up front.

#3, on both sides. It is traditional, but I think it gives a balanced look. And why hide your choir in the back or behind the altar? I would go with the old reliable. It also sounds better.
