Go to windows catalogue (you should have that in your all programmes) Type in the search for a programme called QUICK-START-UP. Its free so download that and it will show you loads of unnecessary programmes that start when windows starts. All you do is click the boxes for the programmes you do not want to run.If you then need them all you do is go into again + simply click them back on---simple!!!!! All the best. Sam

Hi,

It can depend on the application you're talking about. Some are in the Start->All Programs->Startup, which can be stopped by simply deleting the shortcut from there.

Some, e.g. Yahoo/MSN Messenger have check buttons in the options like Automatically Start when I log into Windows.

The associated service for the program (Start->All Programs->Administrative Tools->Services) may be set to automatically start on boot up.

What are the particular programs you want to stop? We should be able to give more specific advice for you from there.

ccleaner is easiest way, I agree.

Else Click Start, chose Run from the start menu,
andtype msconfig inthe box.

Press Enter.

Once the window opens, Choose the Start up tag and unclick any programs you don't want to open at startup.

BTW, If you click on Services tag, there are some entries there, that you can unclick, eg. Error reporting that you do not want to open till you need them,( And who needs error reporting?), besides there is help and support ( I have not used windows help in eons). If you unclick any, you can avoid their starting up with computer.

goto 'start' then 'run' type in msconfig, hit enter.

On the top, select the 'startup' tab. Uncheck whatever you don't want. To turn it back on, re-check it.
