It depends of the food and how long it has been sitting out. Bacteria growth gets very fast in a short time. So keep refrigerated below 41 or hot above 145. This will keep the food out of the Temperature Danger Zone.

It depends on the food, poultry and seafood can spoil pretty quick and be deadly (or you'll be so sick you wish you could die), especially if uncooked. You can "cook" fish with lemon juice under the right conditions according to Les Stroud but I never tried it. Things like dried foods, heavily preserved with additives or fruit and vegetables should be alright, baked goods stay better in airtight containers. Hope that helps.

It depends on the food and whether or not bacteria will grow there rapidly when exposed to air. Raw chicken and other raw meats along with potato salad are a few examples. Refrigeration slows down the growth of bacteria. You will see on the bottles of many foods "Refrigerate after the jar is opened"—before opening there has been no exposure to air.

Yes, it depends on the food, but many things need to be kept cold or they will go bad quickly (like mayonaise).

Depends on if it is like meat or poultry which should be refrigerated. But like fresh sald with no dressing, cookies would not go bad
