Lesson for the day, "How to hold a fork:"
If you are right handed, hold it with your right hand.
If you are left handed, hold it with your left hand.
Use the amount of pressure necessary to prevent dropping the fork and to prevent your fingers sliding all the way to the tines when you apply pressure into a tough piece of meat.
Once you have transported the food from the plate to your mouth, gently place the fork on the plate so that the tines are on the plate. Then release the fork while you chew. This will enable you to pick up your glass of wine to have a sip with your last bite - or take a sip of water, if you will.
There are no rules of where on the handle you should hold the fork - provided you are not holding it as you would hold a hammer.
Tell your wife not to talk at the table unless she has something pleasant to say. That way, you will both be able to enjoy the meal.

It must be a guy thing. My husband insists on using salad forks Only, all the time, so, in effect, the end Is the middle, and the distance between his hand and the food is the same as you're trying to achieve.

Holding the fork towards the middle is ok, but preferably not too far down so your fingers are anywhere near the prong part.

I think it's more practical to hold it closer to the top, because you get more leverage that way.

Your wife has entirely too much time on her hands .
Does she get off ,criticizing everything you do ?
Stand up to her before she takes away your self esteem .

Hold it in a dainty way. Don't hold it like it is a spatula.
