Seeing as I am in the National Reserve, being invaded by Russia is on the top of my list. Of course, that's a non-issue here, as everyone has an obligation of national defence anyway, in the time of an emergency, whether or not they have gone through national service or such.
NATO-membership is a big issue here, for people not wanting to go to war themselves, yet I cannot support such an alliance, seeing as none of our "friends" helped us during the last wars. Sure, they all had nice speeches about us being the victims and so on, but there was no political will to condemn the USSR invasion. Clearly, we need to have a plausible national defence, not reliant on ties with other countries.

With the idiot currently sitting in the White House still controlling the Military, I can't think of one sane reason to join for at least two years. Serving Bush's twisted goals in Iraq is NOT serving the country.

Having more guts than the OP is a start. Wanting to serve your country (something liberals can't understand) there are many reasons.

Someone pointing a gun to my head and screaming "JOIN THE F**KING ARMY OR YOUR A DEAD MAN"
I might give it some serious consideration then.
