You shouldn't really use cracked or chipped crockery at all as it harbours germs, but small chips should be okay in terms of surviving the process. Cracked, if the crack runs across a major part of it, might well give way under thermal expansion - so I especially wouldn't use it as a microwave container, or you could have hot liquid everywhere

Corelle has worked for me for years. I only have bowls left from earlier times. Now I use some dishes I bought on ebay that are bone china, but dishwasher and microwave safe. The brand is "American Atelier" but they are made in China. The cups I use are from Ikea. This sounds like a mess, but people think it's a set.

Cracked or chipped servingware should never be used under any circumstances. If you were to check with your local health dept. woul sould fine that it is a what they call a critical violation to serve or use chipped or cracked wares. That is because those minor areara han harbor bacterias not to mention they could become further damaged or break during use.

they carry bacteria in the cracks and you can have cross contamination.

you can washthem in the dishwasher, and put them in the microwave, but it makes a difference if the crack is big or not.

Anything with a crack in it is more likely to break when subjected to heating/cooling. The biggest danger is that if it fails catastrophically when full of something hot, it could seriously burn you.

In general you should chuck away any kitchen items with cracks, as these can harbour germs more easily and be harder to keep properly clean.

no.....absolutely not......don't please......a lot of the other answers mention dishes cracking with hot food in them....what they dont say is pulling the dish out of the heat causes it to fracture... the exposure to cooler air weakens the structure......please dont put anything in the microwave in those chipped or cracked dishes or you'll be back on here asking for burn remedies!!!

No, throw it out.........cracks can harbor microorganisms that microwaving won't kill........and besides, why would you want to consume something out of a cracked/chipped vessel anyway??

Depending on where the dish was made. Many dishware made out of the USA are made with lead in the clay and or paint. Heating this can cause it to leach into your food. I personally wouldn't risk it.
