They pretty much work with you and what you want as much as they can. However, you shouldn't need a "break" from BCT. It's only 9 weeks and it's better to get it over with. You'd be better off to try to work it so you can go to BCT, have Christmas at home and then start AIT. Honestly, you don't want to be forced into taking Christmas exodus. I don't know if it's changed, but exodus used to count toward your leave. Kinda like mandatory leave. If you take exodus that soon after joining, you'll be in the hole for leave days. I know, because this happened to my hubby. Then, when he came down on orders for Germany directly after AIT, we had no time together because he had no leave saved. He went strait overseas and it took me 6 months to get there. Just something for you to think about. Ask the recruiter if exodus counts toward leave because if it does, you don't want to start in the hole.

Also, in all honesty, you and your family need to learn to spend time apart. Especially holidays. I know you don't want to hear this and some will think I'm mean, but it's the Army life. Our daughter is 9 and hubby has been home or able to help for 2 Halloweens. He's been gone about half of her Christmas' and in our 18 years, I can't even tell you how many missed holidays or special days. It takes a special and strong family to be a military family. I hope you and yours are prepared for the lifestyle. It's a hard life, but it's a good life.

Good luck and thanks for your willingness to serve!!

It would depend on the need for your MOS. If you have signed up for the delayed entry program than chances are good that you can pick when you are to leave. If you signed up to get a bonus, you will have to go with the date they give you.

It may be worth waiting a little while to sign up (maybe after Christmas) and take your chances there.

My husband enlisted in early September a few years ago as a 63B. If he went with whatever date they gave him, he got his bonus of 20K. If not, he did not get a bonus at all. He left for basic on 09/30 and was lucky enough to finish basic and still make it home for exodus leave after one week of being in AIT.

I guess my suggestion would be to either go NOW or wait until after Christmas. Talk to the recruiter and find out what options you have. Once you get passed a certain point with MEPS it seems like it kind of gets out of your hands. Make sure you go in telling them what YOU want, not letting them tell you what they want. The need for soldiers is not going to change right now!

Good Luck...and please remember how hard this all will be on your wife and children. Send lots of letters and I love you's to reassure her that it will all be worth it. She'll need it and will continue to need it throughout you military career.

I am currently serving as an Army recruiter, I can tell you right now that there is no way that they will push you out that far since you have already graduated from high school. You will probably be leaving right after Christmas this year.

As far as having three children and a wife, I do as well. It can be difficult at times but there is som much that we have gotten to do and see that we wouldn't have other wise.

Good Luck

Well If you are in Delayed Enlistment Program which I assume you are. You have 1year to go to basic from the date you signed up for DEP. However there is a chance you could lose your guaranteed
job if you have one. If you are doing anything with open in front of it don't worry about it. Call and ask your recruiter or meps I don't see a problem.

untill you raise your right hand you can join when ever you want
they won't have a say in it just don't do anything untill you spend christmas with your family but if you wait that long your just going to want christmas next year but if you allready joined you have to go to basic but you should get exodus anyway

Yes they will. They also might tell you to come back next August or September if you want a bonus.

Incredible, a wife and 3 kids and you're joining the military?

Let me tell you something. You don't have a clue as to what you are getting yourself into.
