Tourism is a curse in Eastbourne, especially during Airbourne weekend. All those d*ckheads getting in the way all the time, making catching a train a complicated queueing system and what for? So McDonalds, the gift shops, the hotels and the unlicensed sideshows on the seafront can make megabucks with hardly any going to the council and nothing for the residents, and then the bastards who make the money can't be arsed to give anything towards the Christmas decorations. The same goes for the foreign students. How many host families actually declare it to the tax office?

Er... I am sure that there are many unspoilt places around the world. However to tell you something that I know of read following:
Have you heard of a fortress build on a two hundred meter rock? And this is something wonderful, build in 5th century.
This is called Sigiriya Rock: On the summit of the Sigiriya rock (meaning the 'Lion Rock') that is over 1.5 hectares in extent are the remains of a large palace, the earliest surviving royal palace in Sri Lanka, with several chambers and a bathing pond.Sigiriya is considered the 08th wonder of the world.

i just wanted to say i now work for a tour operator 'spirit of greece' and with my job i get to travel quite a bit. we pride ourselves on the fact that we have villas in places that arent too touristy. i have been to places i wouldnt normally have gone like paxos, halki and lefkas places i havent heard of before my job and now i even advise family and friends to go there too. greece has so many unspoilt islands.
tourism does help countries too so personally i think it is a good thing if managed!
i used to live in cornwall and we used to call the tourists emits as they were like little ants everywhere but now i go back for short holidays and i too am one of them. cornwall has many unspoilt places aswell not just the major tourist places so you can get away from the hustle and bustle of places if you wish.

If you get away from the usual tourist trail and places where major package deal type tour operators go to then yes there are still places around the world that have not been spoilt by mass tourism. But they are disappearing fast so get travelling quickly..

Yes, know what you actually mean,my sister lives just outside Truro I know it gets damp down there but the peace & tranquility I envy you. As regards other places abroad there are a lot of places it`s just hoping no one else finds out about them when you come across one so, I tend not to let anyone know as I prefer that time when one can forget the "rat race" for awhile & soak up whatever.Wednesday next week I will be at one of those locations.

tourism sucks.
especially when you've got the fuckers everywhere, blocking my pavement.
those tourists who actually care, shouldn't be called tourists, but travellers.
there are definately unspoilt places, but i won't say where, for obvious reasons.
so much culture lost to figurines and postcards, and photos taken of fat americans with fat kids, all with digital cameras around thier necks, all but one who gave his fat camera to the guy selling newspapers so they could get a super-wide-angle shot of the 4 of them, big, red and out of breath from walking off the tube and making it around the corner to a park bench.
