The only commandment I know in the bible is "love thy neighbor", and I'm no expert. But regarding this verse, doesn't it mean that the bible wants it's believers to love friend and foe who surround them? Including people of other religions, people of different sexual orientations, and etc? But why are there so many Christians who constantly address these things as diseases and plagues? What do you think?

We have to tell the truth, but we must do it in a loving and kind and wise way. We are NEVER to compromise. We must love all humankind and hate their sin.

I have seen a lot of Christians who are very ugly on this site, and it shames and saddens me tremendously as this is not a true reflection of our Lord Jesus Christ. But I have also seen people from other religions being ugly simply because we have, or rather, the Lord has through us, "hit the nail on the head" and convicted them of their sin which they do not like.

if you know the Bible a little better, then you would also know that there are commandments against the things you just said (on wrong teachings [which is still much debated on] and on sexually immoral acts). for example, in the book of Leviticus (20:13), God clearly considers people who sexually favor people of the same sex as sinners.

But, just as you said, the commandment "love thy neighbor" asks us to, well, love others. so how do you show that?

help those people understand about the sinful situation they are in by reminding them that they are involving themselves in sin, which is, in a sense, a disease that separates us from God. and if you really love that person, then you will strive to help him or her escape the life of wrongdoings that person lives. why are there signs like "do not litter" or "no smoking"? because people continue to do these things, that there is still a need to post signs to remind people NOT to do these things; so that order can be maintained. this is similar to Christians addressing sinfulness so that a proper spiritual and even physical life be maintained for a better relationship with God since sin separates us from the Holy/God.

Let me try to answer. I am not necessarilly conveying my thoughts, just a general answer.

Christians are taught in their bibles that #1- There is only 1 God. #2- To lay with another man is a sin. #3- Jesus said '' I am the way, the truth and the light. No man may enter unto the father except by me. #4- Jesus also told us ''that to accept him is to accept the father and to reject him is to reject the father'' and finally #5- Jesus said in REV. that if you are lukewarm ( as in not totally believing/practicing or only believing what fits your lifestyle ) he will spew you out of his mouth.

So yes, we are taught to love our neighbors, but we are also taught to spread the word of his( Jesus ) love and offer of salvation. Should a christian just stand back in silence and watch another go down the wrong path ? If by chance we can guide them or show them the light, we want to. There are a lot of people with the '' feel good '' mentality of God and religion. They think that if they are just nice and helpful to others, live a good life, that they get a trip to heaven. It is not like that. If you read the bible, it tells the opposite. It clearly tells us that deeds alone will not get us a spot in eternity.

So it is hard, to know what we believe is the truth, to not share our knowlege. I am sure that some come on too strong, too judgemental, but we as a group have only the best of intentions.

You are right. We are supposed to love them. But just because we love them doesn't mean we think that what they are doing is right. But I also believe should not push our beliefs on them. I believe the best way to be a witness is to live a Christian life and let people know that we are Christians but don't push it on them. Then when people ask what is different about our life, we can tell them we are a Christian. We can also pray for those people. We SHOULD love our neighbors and I believe that most Christians sincerely try to do that, though it is a hard task.

There's a difference between loving the people in the religions and loving the religions. A Christian has to stand against a anti-Christian religion or they are compromising their faith. The saying, "I'm ok, you're ok", isn't true. There's one way to God and that's thru Jesus. People think we're not loving because we don't accept false doctrines. It's a common misconception that irritates me.

The greatest commandment is to love your neighbor as yourself but that isn't the only one. There are 10 others.

Friend, the only thing God requires us Christians to do is to love their soul. And not their ways, If we as True Christians, love their ways, then we would be in the situation as they are. Let's take this Love thy neighbor as thyselve & put it in it's proper setting.

We do love our neighbours.Just because we don't agree with some people's choices and lifestyle, doesn't mean that we hate the people who engage in such behaviour.

I do get so tired of Christians who think they are so holy------and even these replies I see--they think they are being so understanding, or whatever, but, their holier than thou attitudes are showing thru.
