I'd ask him if he'd like a beer & nothing else. What this person did is incredibly personal & could never be expressed to someone that wasn't in a similar situation. You do this person a disservice by asking him to relive an event that may have cost him a price without equal.

I wouldn't ask him anything. I won a few medals myself during the Korean war and 3 tours in Vietnam. I would rather not be asked anything that brings back old memories.

I would like to go back and ask anyone who landed at the beaches of Normandy in '44...
What was on your mind as you jumped out of the LCM, and ran up the beach toward all those bullets and bombs coming at you? And I would then ask, do you think we should have nuked the Atlantic wall to make it easier?
Mc Hummer- you are completely insane to think like you do. omg, what happened to you? doh...

The three you mentioned (all WWII) South Seas resistance fighters were considered terrorist by the Japanese. I'd ask them "what was the most important part of your victory to you?

Interviewing a "war hero" is like interviewing Santa Claus. You can have someone pretend to be and make up propaganda, but the reality is, ALL soldiers who have seen combat have committed some form of crime against humanity.
US soldiers have killed anywhere from 100,000 to 350,000 innocent Iraqis, and you're going to call them "war heroes"? The only true US war heroes are the dissenters who refused to fight after seeing what was really going on in Iraq.
