they have air freight now and air cargo will be little bit expensive than sea freight. You can send it Japan Air lines, or use the influence of the Japanese Embassy/consulate to help you. Once it is for destination Japan, and specially for a Japanese friend, make sure it is in his name, they will probably go above thier heads to help you, to forward it by Japan air lines.
