Ha!
Was having this discussion at the weekend and someone (smart-****!) suggested that the chicken had to be the mutatedproduct of a (slightly-different species) egg.
Now - I bet that was one worried looking parent!
Infact wasn't there a fairytale written around this whole concept...
And I suppose the question could be "what came first: the egg or the very very ugly duckling? And the answer might be that the duck-egg came before the chicken that was born out of it. ;o)

Actually, any of the two could be considered. God made our world very complex. There are somethings that really don't have a reasonable explanation.
It could've been the chicken or the egg because without the chicken there wouldn't be any eggs because chickens are the ones that lay eggs. But without eggs chickens wouldn't be here. Because chickens come from eggs.

Since eggs cook much faster than chicken, the waitress brings the eggs first.
Many creatures were laying eggs before chickens evolved.

A chicken and an egg are lying in bed. The chicken is smoking a cigarette with a satisfied smile on its face. The egg is frowning and looking a bit pissed off. The egg mutters to no one in particular, "Well, I guess we answered THAT question!"

If you believe God created the heavens and the earth and everything in it, then the answer is the chicken came first because God created the birds too then they also started multiplying thereby producing eggs.
