I don't agree with the concept at all. It's a nasty double standard. Pit Bulls and Rottweilers, and all of those other "aggressive" breeds are wonderful dogs. I believe that it's unfair to have a distinction just because an animal has received a bad reputation. If you ever watch any of the "Animal Cops" shows on Animal Planet, you'd see why some Rotties and Pits have bitten people. Heck, after seeing what they go through, I wanna bite someone! I don't want to say that there are no "bad dogs" out there, however if there are, you can't magically determine the bad one based on the breed.

The laws are changing on things here. I have an import line German Shepherd. A few months ago, my husband was traveling and someone tried to break into my home a few times. Kaiser was able to track the person all the way to the road for the officer. The police finally told me that if someone comes into the home, to let him loose on them and I would not get in trouble. If someone tried to hurt me intentionally, he would take that person down. He is trained well, and normally would not bite unless he is told to. The breed with the most bites is actually a cocker spaniel. Some of the small breeds bite quite a bit. People don't make a big deal over it as normally the bite is not as bad as a large breed bite.

Dogs should be put to sleep for biting people when they cause serious damage (like death) i feel. I personally own a pit bull and i hate the view the media gives of these dogs. Yes the big breeds are responsible for most dog related deaths, but it is the small dogs that are responsible for most of the dog bites that arent life or death situations.

it suxs big time. here where i live in Australia pit bulls a banned, the only way u can own a pit bull is if it was registered before November last yr and is desexed otherwise if u get caught with one that's not registered or if its a pup it is taken from u and put down. this law is stupid there is no such thing as a bad dog or bad breed, its they way they've been treated or trained. and as far as it goes for putting a dog down for protecting its owner is wrong in so many ways a dog should protect its owner and if someone is going to try to hurt someone else or is breaking into someones house then they should be punished not the dog.

I think the way that this country looks at these "aggressive breeds" is appalling. I myself am a big time pit bull lover and own seven of them, and have four kids. My dogs have never shown any type of aggression towards anyone, but yet they are considered bad dogs. And the sad part is that there are allot of famous pit bulls from history. The was Sargent Stubby, the first ever war decorated dog from WW2. The dog from little rascals, Petey, was a pit, lots of famous people from history owned them including presidents, but yet all it takes is some bad owners, or should I say, stupid owners to give this breed a bad name.

Any dog can be vicious wether large or small, the reason the bigger dogs are always the first ones to be put down as they do greater damage, the little ones can't do as much damage so are often overlooked. I'm all for the dogs protecting it's owner. It is usually the way in which the dog is treated which is the main problem.

I hate the idea of putting dogs to sleep because they've bitten people. But I agree, that if they have to do it, it shouldn't just be breed specific, any "viscious" dog should be handed out the same punishment, not miss out just because they're cute and cuddly and likely to spend most of their day being spoilt on someone's velvet sofa, wearing silly dog clothes.

It's a shame there isn't some sort of dog penitentiary for viscious dogs.

I think the U.S. has become a big brother type of state and bsl does not work. From the hands of stupid owners loving family pets now suffer and it's not fair.I think our country as a whole should make the stupid owners be penalized for creating vicous dogs that bite.

I think a dog should be euthanized only if it is sick and suffering. If it is attacking other animals and people it should first be sent to behaviour modification school, if that doesn't work then more drastic measures will need to be taken. I once had the meanest dog alive who bit everyone including me I gave her to a farmer who said she was the best eatch dog he ever saw, thus her true value was utilized.
