Hey guys, doing some research on cults and New religious movements for sociology... anyone know about any weird cults for example Peoples temple and WACO, and why people join from a sociological point of view. And any other weird organisations and cults

There was Jim Jones, Manson, the Moonies, Waco, and many others.
People join things like cults and religious movements because they are looking for answers and feel these organizations provide those answers.

Actually, if you look at the meaning of the word cult, all it means is "A following of people." So really, any religious group would be a cult.

Because they're dissastified with orthodox religions. What is a cult, but a religion anyway? I've never understood the difference.
Something makes sense to them and they are taught that to question the rest is a sin.
"Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft" is something I was brought up on whenever I tried to question.
