No, they cannot "force" Bush to pull the troops out. Yes, they do control the money and have to authorize any spending that is needed, but I don't think they should just cut all funding. That could be seen as the Dems not supporting the troops.
Also, I think the world would think a lot worse of the U.S. if we just up and pulled out. That would be like saying to Iraq, "Sorry about the mess we made. You can clean it up now". Why we are there is a moot point now. The damage is done, and cannot be changed. What we need to do now is figure out how to finish the job and "clean up the mess", then get out.
The Dems should work WITH Bush on an exit strategy, not AGAINST him. By this, I'm not saying they should "rubber stamp" what ever he wants, but both sides need to work together and come up with a compromise.

What they can do and hopefully will do is meet with the president to find a way to withdraw our troops without leaving Iraq in chaos. The democrats know that it is impossible to just suddenly pull out, that a plan must be in place. Hopefully the president and congress can work together to find a way to get our soldiers home as quickly as possible.

if your'e in control of both the house and the senate in this country, you can do just that. And you can be sure a showdown is coming between dem's, and Bush. Bush will go down in flames, and slowly...over a few months, our guys will begin to trickle back home.
I'm not for our "occupation" as some call it, I'm for the troops and thats it.
Billybob, you contridicted yourself man, the Dem's can "end" it in every sense of the word- cut off the cashflow. Effects of that? obvious.

it is not Bush alone who can do this.....it has to be a concerted combined effort. The Americans are so deeply involved in Iraq that moving out will have to be in a phased manner and we must understand that the consequences on both nations will be great.

The Democrats have a simple majority so I doubt that they can force anyone to do anything.

my guess is there will be no substantial policy changes...anything brought up will most likely just end up as a stalemate with endless political rhetoric.
