to take pictures

I have been doing photography for about ten years now (as a hobby). Three years ago, I lost the sight in my right eye so I switched to digital only (I can see fine with the left eye). I go nowhere without my camera. At times, as on a sunny day, I can not see the LCD screen so I just point it and take the picture. Some of my best have been done this way.

But, the point of a camera, for me, is that it misses nothing. As we go about our day we glance here and there, but we only absorb a very small portion of the world around us. When you take a picture and then study it, you can see so very many things, beautiful and wonderful things that you missed along the way.

Now I love the digital since most of my work is posted online anyway. Being able to manipulate the picture to get the exact effect you desire, or to close in on some very small aspect is a real joy.

The use of the camera is really to keep the light out; a "camera" is a lightproof chamber, but the lens is where you'll find the aperture blades, or opening, to let the light reflected from the object/subject into the camera while the glass works to focus it onto the film plane or the sensor, if digital.

The camera records and deliver an image of what is in front without discriminating.

A camera is used to capture a snapshot of time. To store a fleeting moment in your life, for savouring and reliving at your leisure.

None! I carry a pencil and paper and sketch anything I want a record of. It's really tough during sporting events but if I use shorthand I can draw sequences almost as fast as a camera with a motor drive. DUH...
