Cerebral palsy is most often diagnosed in young infant and children under 5 years of age. The brain of children in this age group is rapidly developing such that any damage inflicted on it may cause permanent harm manifesting as signs of cerebral palsy. It is caused by damage to the brain either from hypoxia (suffocation) during prolonged child birth or due to an infection of the brain's covering called meningitis. If you happen to see a teen with cerebral palsy, then it is a late diagnosis or it was misdiagnosed in early childhood.

Cerebral Palsy can result from trauma to the body.
Since said trauma can occur at any age, Cerebral Palsy can begin at any age.
My son was not born with CP, but, suffered sever strokes in childhood, which has resulted in CP.
For further information contact your local CP association.
Good Luck
