my role is a rich mother but very ill. any suggestions what my costume should be?

Should i go with the sick look or rich look or maybe both?

my character's age is about 40 years old and she is going to die soon. i want to make my character to be seen as weak.

I,m not sure what the setting is because you did not say but generally speaking rich ladies wear comfortable clothing when they are going to die just better quality than say some one with less money. How about a casual cottony white velour jogging type suit and some cold slippers and put on diamonds and or gold.

Well, it depends on the period the play is set, but Iwould say that if she is someone who wants to retain their aouthrity she wouldn't want to look like a 'sick' person as that would be a sign of weakness. I would make just one adjustment to an otherwise 'normal' set of clothes; shawl, expensive wrap etc.
remeber it's thepersone that is sick, not the clothes. maybe a stick[ though don't go over the top], something slight to suggest it is always best. keep the audience intrigued...

I don't have enough info to design a costume, for example what period, is she ambulatory, etc.

If bedridden I would suggest an elaborate frilly bedjacket (sort of a short cape) of expensive-looking materials like satin or lace.

If ambulatory, a peignoir set with nightgown and dressing gown, again in flowing expensive materials like satin and lace. Perhaps using two canes to assist rather than a walker. And of course, hair, nails and makeup should all be flawless.

rich mother,very ill-i've encountered some of em' before.they wear jewelry and branded clothing but no amount of wealth or cosmetics can cover their pale faces and frail nature-they talk with dry voices and walk in a way that says 'i've spent my whole life collecting expensive but useless rubbish,and now that i'm dying there's nothing i can do'-as in a bit slow and bended.

some of them are mean and speak loudly as to cover their grievances and inner pain with meaness and rudeness,others act forgivingly and kindly-wait,i just read ur q again LOL cotume harrr ahahahhaa-depends on ur age,go or the middle-aged rirch mum with bad taste-u know they wear versace shirt got gold and purple one,they think its nice jus cos its expensive,then office pants and a big flower hat with fruits on it.
