I know the kid's got a big mouth. I know he irritates everyone. I know some people may consider his fights boring to watch.
However, he's 37 and 0 and the only person to remotely challenge him has been Castillo, the first time. Second time out, he made the adjustments and took Castillo to school.
Personally, I love his defensive clinics - Floyd is the best defensive fighter I have ever seen.
He's made the jump from130 to 147 effortlessly, and to put his skills in context, consider this; Castillo and Corrales, two first class warriors, engaged in a see-saw war that will be remembered forever. Mayweather drilled them both. He knocked Corrales on his a*s five times.
As long as he keeps winning, he can keep talking.

Brent - that rivalry was supposed to be with Diego Corrales. When that fight happened, a lot of respected pundits were picking Corrales to win.
We all know what happened.

Brent - I disagree with your take on the first Mayweather/Castillo fight.
Mayweather beat him. It was Mayweather's toughest test to date, but he beat him.

Frank D and Santana - sorry guys, Floyd's travails out of the ring have no impact on his worth as a fighter. He's not the first pro fighter that beats women and he won't be the last.

Cool Breeze - I agree with you, Floyd has dominated some quality competition as he's moved through the ranks.

That's what i've been trying to figure out! He's the best fighter out there right now. You don't have to like his personality or some of his antics outside the ring, but we're talking about in the ring. Give me one fighter in boxing right now that is more skillful, has more ring savvy, is as quick, and had dominated more world class opponents than Floyd. I agree that there are still some good fights out there for Floyd, like Paul Williams, Antonio Margarito, Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto and Mega fights like Shane Mosley and Oscar De la Hoya, but let's not be blind to what the man has already done in his career. Personally, i would like to see him fight Margarito next because everyone says Floyd is afraid of him and is his biggest threat. I wonder what all the haters will say when he dominates Margarito(sorry folks. way too slow for Floyd) like he did Baldomir? I see a Mayweather-Margarito fight going much like Roy Jones-Julio Gonzalez, the more skillful fighter dominating with speed, technique, and ring smarts against the bigger, slower fighter. Hate him or love him, but if you deny his talents or that he's the best right now, then you are not keeping it real!

it's just kinda funny to me that people don't want to give Floyd any credit for the fighters he's beaten already. Diego Corrales was undefeated and a wrecking ball at 130 and i heard the same thing about him then that i'm hearing about Margarito now. That Floyd was afraid of Diego and he was ducking him. So when they fight, what happens? Floyd floors him FIVE TIMES and dominates him. I read Frank D's answer and almost laughed my head off. Floyd doesn't dominate fighters? What do you call what he did to Corrales? What other fighter has dominated Arturo Gatti in the fashion that Floyd beat him? Angel Manfredy was a very respectable fighter and Floyd blew him away in TWO RDS! Genaro was the best fighter in the division when Floyd fought him and Floyd stopped him easily. I don't think Hernandez even won a round. Jose Luis Castillo gave Floyd a run for his money in the first fight and it was a close fight, i admit that, but in the rematch Floyd made the adjustments and won easily. Look, you don't have to like the man at all and say what you will about his style and what he does outside the ring, but his record doesn't lie. He's the best p4p fighter in boxing. Can he be beat? Of course!(anyone can) But will he be beat? He hasn't been so far, so we'll see in the near future.

Obviously you understand he is a arrogant prick and that mouth of his is what got the hate machine rolling and is what keeps fueling it. Floyd makes ludicrous claims about his greatness. He was on quite frankly (which by the way I refuse to watch now completely due to Steven A not asking any tough questions to Floyd when he grills everyone else) and proclaimed he is the greatest boxer to ever live. On top of this he doesnt respect the fans. Im a resonable person and acknowledge the fact that Floyd is the most skilled fighter out there (i dont even mind the way he fights now, its just smart. Against Baldomir he broke the record for hitting his opponant the most while getting hit the least) but he doesnt take the fights the fans want to see. He takes hand picked opponants and no risk. Thats fine but dont tell us how great you are and how you rule the welterweight division. I, and all other boxing fans, want to see him in there with a big busy welter (and no baldomir isnt a big welter and yes, I think he may be able to rule the ww div. he just wont try), yet he seems to think we're stupid and really dont know the way to greatness. Hes his own worst enemy and is wasting his talent and ruining what could have been possibly one of the greates legacy's in boxing. To sum it up its his mouth and his refusal to take dangerous fights once he moved up from 135.

Floyd Mayweather's record speaks for itself, doesn't look like the record of anyone who can't handle himself. (My Opinion Put Away The Pistols and Switch Blades LOL)
NO LOSSES IN HIS CAREER, HAS BEAT THE FOLLOWING FORMER OR CURRENT CHAMPIONS. RECORD OF THE FIGHTER HE BEAT AT THE TIME OF THE FIGHT IS IN ( ): A # INDICATES THE FIGHT WAS FOR THE *OPPONENTS* TITLE,
#CARLOS BALDOMIR (43W-L10), #ZAB JUDAH (34W-3L), Sharmba Mitchell (56W-4L), #ARTURO GATTI (39W-6L), DeMarcus Corley (28W-2L), JOSE LUIS CASTILLO I (45W-4L) II (46W-5L), Jesus Chavez (36W-1L), Carlos Hernandez (33W-2L), Diego Corrales (33W-0L), Gregorio Vargas (41W-5L), #Genaro Hernandez (38W-1L) *this was Floyd's first attempt at a title in only his 18th pro fight*. The win-loss total for just those listed (472 Wins - 43 Losses). If this is the record of a guy who "sucks" or can't fight, a simple good or mediocre fighter should have a much better track record than this, right?? I mean lets be serious lets see just the record of what a "good" fighter not even outstanding or excellent just "good" looks like. Anyone??
The man can't be judged on a Mega Fight or a dramatic Trilogy if everytime he fights he destroys and embarrasses the opposition. Mayweather's issues outside the ring I agree, are unacceptable but, as a fan of the sport I am assessing him for his "in the ring" proficiency. I mean their have been countless athletes who did unsavory things in their private lives, thats life, it happened and it always will. The opinion expressed is that of the user and doesn't reflect the views of the....TY

Brad I don't hate Floyd. He doesn't have that great rivalry on his resume that separates the good solid champions from the all time greats. Floyd claims to be an all time great. For him to claim himself as such he has to risk his title against some one who can test his mettle and his claim as an all time great. You've got to do more if you're going to put yourself up there with Ali and Robinson. If he does, and triumphs, I'll be the first to recognize him as an all time great.
Brad - I agree with your statement pertaining to Corrales. A absolute mis match. That rivalry could have materialized with Castillo, if the judges didn't have blinders on in their first fight.
Hell, they might even fight a third time especially with Castillo recent problems with making weight. He may jump up to 147, who knows.
Brad - Agree to disagree that's what its all about. We both saw that first fight and I'm surprised you thought Floyd won. I scored it 115 - 112 for Castillo he set the pace and controlled the fight from about the 3rd or 4th round on.

Brad ~
In my opinion, you answered your own questions in your first couple of sentences, but I'll add a little more to that. Floyd is not trying to become a better fighter by fighting better competition, he's fighting fights that he knows he can win, Gatti, Judah, Baldomir the list goes on and on. Why did Floyd turn down 8 million dollars to fight Antonio Margarito? That's 6 million more than he got to face Baldomir.
Floyd is a World Champion and that makes him open to public scrutiny and should hold himself to a higher standard than your average citizen. Floyd is a convicted woman beater, he received a Suspended Sentence for beating two woman at a nightclub in Grand Rapids Michigan and was ordered to take "Impulse Control" Counseling. He was up to his same old ways at a Las Vegas nightclub where he got into a fight with two more woman where he punched kicked and pulled their weaves out of their heads and if that's not enough to make you not like Floyd he also beat the mother of three of his children Josie Harris.
Everything that I wrote above is a matter of public record, you can look up most of this stuff yourself if you don't want to read it here. Floyd's life is lead by example, Uncle Roger's sitting in Jail for punching a woman in the mouth and knocking out 6 of her teeth. There's so many other things that the Mayweathers, especially Floyd have done that if he didn't have the money to give most witnesses memory loss, he'd be in prison.
The public is catching on though, they only sold 9,000 seats at the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino a venue which holds over 18,000. People who bought regular admissison tickets were allowed to get closer to the ring to make it look like a full house on TV.

Well i aint gonna keep it real, Pancho. He aint the best out there and its not just about his mouth and his antics outside the ring, inside the ring he is boring to watch (especially at Welterweight), and i wouldnt say he dominates fighters i would say he makes fighters look stupid with his speed and has great defence but this just isnt what the best out there should rely on, I wanna see some fight from the supposed best fighter on the planet (Winky has a great defence but is not boring to watch).
I havent got an actual personal vendetta against PBF like you claimed in another question either Pancho i just dont like him as a boxer or a person and that is my personal view. As i have said before in previous questions i prefer the Mexican style of going allout and making it a real fight no backwards steps which is Floyds favourite move nowadays maybe because he has stepped up too much in weight, if he moved back down we might be able to see him fight in some decent fights.
I dont want to hate him but as a massive boxing fan i find it really hard to like someone who behaves the way that he does, i think he is bad for boxing, he isnt attracting fans to watch the sport at a time when we need it he is actually making people turn away from the sport, and dont tell me that no one noticed the masses of people heading for the exit during the 8th and 9th rounds, no one wants to watch that sort of boxing. Like i said before bring on Pacquiao and Morales lets see a real fight between two real men and two real boxers.
Answering this has just made me think of another question which i think would get people thinking, and its not just about hating on Floyd, its a valid question that i think needs answering.

People dislike him because watching him fight is like watching a low scoring football dictated by the defense. No one appreciated good defense anymore. "Chicks dig the long ball". In my opinion he is the Pound for Pound King and I can't see him losing for a long long time.
