Mat 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
To really understand this, Jesus called Peter "Petros" or "a rock or a stone"
I contend that if we observed that conversation, we would then see Jesus point to Himself and say upon THIS rock or petra, I will build MY church. Petra indicates a much larger rock...we can say a bolder instead of a pebble,
The church is always referred to as the church of Jesus Christ, not Peter's church. In fact, Peter was not even the first "church" leader..James was.
1Corinthians 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
If our foundation is anything or any one other then JESUS..we are on sinking sand.

The original congregations were started by the apostles. They weren't churches, as they were not places of worship, but places of learning. Worship is a private matter, done alone, at home.
The congregations became churches as Christians began drifting away from the accurate teachings of Christ. The Apostle Paul said that he felt he had worked for nothing, as they had begun returning to the rituals, observance, and holidays of men.

There are many books about this. The original church was founded by Christ's disciples. Because of heavy persecution, they met in secret, usually at someone's house. It wasn't until Constantine that most of the heavy persecution in the Roman Empire ended, and buildings were erected as churches.

Peter is not the founder of the Catholic Church. Christ Himself is the founder. Peter was the first Vicar of Christ, the first human representative of Christ and temporal head of His Church, appointed by Christ Himself. Jesus, speaking directly to the Apostle Simon, said "Thou [note - "Thou", not "your profession of faith"] art Rock, and upon this Rock I will build my Church". The Rock upon which Christ built His Church still stands firm today, teaching and worshipping in constant, unchanging unity and truth, in accord with the stated will of Christ, "that they all may be ONE, even as you Father and I are ONE". How different this is from manmade churches not built upon the Rock, a brief history of constant division, fragmentation, and doctrinal chaos, exactly the opposite of Christ's stated will. Thank God for His Church, and the Rock upon which it was built, blessed Simon Peter, Simon the Rock, and his divinely appointed successors. .

Depends on the religion you're referring to.
Christian church was "founded" when Jesus was crucified...He had commanded his deciples to spread the gospel to the world. A church is a body of believers more than just a building.

If you are asking of the Christian Church then it started around the time of Lord Jesus.
He was educated at Taxashila, and was influenced by Hindu scriptures there. He learnt the Hindu Ayurveda & and Yog there. Taxashila is, unfortunately, now in Pakistan.
He practiced healing when he returned home, present day Israel.
He used the Yog practice to feined death on the cross. This fooled the Roman soldiers. Lord Jesus used the healing techniques to heal himself from the wounds suffered on the cross.
Lord Jesus escaped to Shrinagar, Kashmir.
Majority of the Christian history is so distorted over the last 2000 years that all of this is now believed to be impossible.
