The pup is 12 weeks old and really good house trained (mostly) the kitten is 16 weeks old and great goes outside and in her tray. The main problem is the dog keeps eating the poo out of the tray, i have moved tray but then the poor cat cant find it and i am sure it can't be very good for the dog!

the poop itself is ok for the dog - dogs eat it beacuse there are still nutrients and undigested bits in it. The littler however is very bad for the dog - especially the clumping kind. Put the litter tray up higher so the dog can't reach but the cat can jump (make sure you show your kitten where it is a few times).

Also - have a long talk with your puppy and explain the litterbox is NOT a cookie jar! LOL!

it won't hurt the dog but could infect it with worms if your kitten has worms. I suggest you get a covered litter tray with a door in it, place it so the door is facing a wall with only enough room for the cat to get into it. Keep the dog out of the room that the litter tray is in.Make sure you scoop the poo out of the litter tray at least twice a day.(should be done in any case)
Whaever you do, do NOT feed meat tenderiser to the cat. With 16% sodium in it this is kidney failure waiting to happen. I've never heard anything so daft in all my life I'm afraid.
And NEVER smack a dog in the mouth on the nose or anywhere.

Dogs eat cat poo! Gross but that's dogs.

You can try verbally scolding your pup or you can try training him what the word 'leave' means. This has got to be taught because dogs have no idea what we mean when we say the word until they are taught in a proper structured way.

It can be done . I use it to stop my adult dogs picking up anything harmful or disgusting when they are out with me.

Alternatively you can just manage the situation by ensuring that your pup cannot reach the litter tray. Putting it somewhere high or behind a pup-proof barrier that is OK for your kitten to negotiate is the answer.

Make sure that pup and kitten are both wormed regularly.

Good luck.

Pups do tend to develop this kind of habit, and many adult dogs like to eat cat poo too. Some pups also have the awful habit of eating their own poo and your pup may develop this habit in another month or so, keep an eye out.
The only way to stop him is to supervise, tell him off, distract him away with a treat.
You can also try putting something really nasty on the poo, like a dash of tabasco or squeezing a lemon on there. Then leave him to it - he'll wish he hadn't touched the poo!
Preferably, as you don't want to move the litter tray and confuse the cat, remove the pup from that room unless you are with him.
We love our doggy pals but they do need to learn their house manners!

Unfortunately that's what dogs do you cannot stop them. A dog is a scavenger and will eat anything that will not harm them including your cat's poo. Try and keep the dog away from the litter tray. This is not a puppy thing, he will still do it when he is fully grown.

I have a 7 month old lurcher and he does exactly the same. I'm tired of telling him off for nicking it out of the litter tray now and I leave him too it.
Dogs seem to do this as cats feces are full of nutrients and to a dog that's a really tasty meal. I just turn my head now when he does it. YUK!!

Funny how some dogs do it habitually. As nasty as it sounds, apparently it does not hurt them .
What you might try doing is putting a little fence round the tray, and slowly moving it to a place less accessable to your puppy. The kitty will be able to get to it, and learn slowly as it is moved to the safer place.
If you were quite attentive and brilliant, you could wait until the kitty has exited, and put a mousetrap or two in front of the box. They won't permanently injure the dog, but when they snap, it apparently scares the heck out of canines. At most it might catch on his claws. Not a big deal, according to people I have talked with, who put them on furniture to prevent doggies getting on forbidden collectables.

Try changing the food you give the kitten, some foods don't digest properly and come out smelling rather yummy to dogs. I had the same problem with my 2 dogs picking 'treats' from the dirt box, i changed the food the cats were on and no more treat picking. I also had the same problem with my youngest dog doing the same with dog poo, i also changed what food they were on and that seems to have worked as well.
Good Luck.

Youu can get the tray with the hood (cover) and turn the opening toward the wall, with just enough room for the cat..Or put it in a room you can baby-gate off..
the only real danger is from parasites, so its important to keep your dog and cat worm free..
