My sony dv camcorder has developed thick bands across the screen which show on the tape too...is this fixable?

I suspect there is some dust got stuck into the head of the camcorder. To fix the problem you can try the following procedure.

Switch on your camera then forward the cassette fully then rewind the cassette fully like this repeat the procedure for 2-3 times.

If that band got cleared then its o.k and if you still face the problem then plz do contact your nearest sony service center.

The problem is most probably due to dirty video head.
Just buy a Video Head cleaning Tape for camcorder and play it for 10 seconds.

but remember playing the head cleaner too long can damage the video head. so stick to only 10 seconds in one go. If this cannot cure the problem then you might need to take it to authorised service point.

Hi! I've got Sony as well and no problem, but your problem is fixable, just go to the shop where you bought it.

it all depends on how much the camcorder is to how much its cost i know it is quiet expensive to fix those kind of problems

Get a head cleaning tape, and then use it.
