You could always apply for state assistance. It may not be much, but it's better than going hungry. Go back to school, get a better paying job...anything to improove your quality of life. There are so many options out there. You just have to be willing to seek the information. The public library is a great source and there's free internet there.

Buy cheap, filling stuff that you can get a lot of meals out of, like peanut butter and jelly, rice, cereal, ramen noodles!!
But, if you are looking for something a little but more date-like, i would suggest an all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet (at lunchtime!! haha). Or the 5-5-5 deal from Dominos, then you two can eat leftover pizza for a few days.

Funny, I used to collect coke bottles and cans and put it towards buying orange juice when my ex was out of work. I have been there and done that...I don't know...go for a walk, split your fries....buy pasta and fry it in butter and garlic... and serve with one buck chuck (cheap wine). Hold each other and watch a TV program you both like.... Life can be so tedious and unimaginative sometimes...Sorry you guys are feeling that pinch.
