i fly ryanair stanstead to shannon regularly i book well in advance and i pay between 1 cent and 5 cent taxes etc brings it to about 20 euro

This is a higly competitive route so you can find lots of cheap fares on different airlines. The major airlines are British Airways, AerLingus, RyanAir and BMI/bmibaby.

I recommend British Airways as they price these flighst quite competitively and provide a full service (food, drinks etc) compared to budget airlines like AerLingus and RyanAir.
