please no silly stuff...this is sensitive to me

There's been a stray cat that's been coming to our house for 2 years now. I think it was homeless so she would always come, sitting outside of our sliding door...we would give her food, play, and we even bought her a little bed. She never belonged to anyone...she just roamed around the neighborhood always looking for food and someone to play with. This cat was our unofficial pet. Now, we just found out someone killed it...and i can't get over it. It's body was lying in the middle of the road....i have another pet, and fell guilty playing with it. I feel like a part of me is lost...i'm sad...because of the way the cat died and that i don't get to see her anymore...how do i deal with this?

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge, because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge, there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass. When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm Spring weather. Those old and frail animals are young again. Those who have been maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other.

But some of them here by the Bridge are different. They were beaten, starved, tortured, and unloved. They watch wistfully as their friends leave one by one, to cross the Bridge with their special person. But for them there is no special one. Their time on Earth did not give them one.

But one day, as they run and play, they notice someone standing by the road to the Bridge. They see a person wistfully watching the reunions of friends, for during life, this person had no pet. This person, too, was unloved.

Standing there alone, one of the unloved pets approaches, curious as to why this person is also alone. And as the unloved pet and the unloved person get nearer to each other, a miracle occurs, for these are the ones who were meant to be together; the special person and the beloved pet who never had the chance to meet while on Earth. Finally, now, at the edge of the Rainbow Bridge, they meet, their pain and sorrow disappear, and two friends come together. They cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's natural to feel guilty, but you could not have prevented the death. The best thing you can do is exactly what you are doing. Talk about it. Find someone who loves animals and discuss what happened. It really helps. Cry if you have to. It's going to hurt for a while, and everything will remind you of the cat. Time will heal, and you will eventually have good memories and be able to smile when you think of her!

just remember all the happy times you had with her and hope shes in a better place now. I know this may sound corny but its true.

My family had to have one of our cats put to sleep. He was 18/19 [human] years old. My mother had him since he was a kitten. I was 12 when he was put down, I was sad for a while but I eventually moved on. We also just had a 3 week old kitten recently pass away in his sleep. It was sad but hell always be in my memory.

Try not to think about her too much, not forget, but get her off your mind if you can and soon enough you'll find innerpeace. Hope it helps you out.

You are obviously a caring person so it is natural that you should be sad at the loss of your animal friend, and a friend is just what she was.

You certainly should not feel any guilt. Perhaps someone could not stop in time and hit her with a car.

Believe it or not, you will eventually be able to enjoy other pets as you once did, although you will never forget this loving creature.

An Excerpt taken from: Stages of Grief

Grief work is the part of dealing with a loss that most everyone dreads. Grief work is what comes after a pet owner has passed through the stages of grief. This is the time when family stops calling to check on you, friends stop asking how you're feeling, and it seems like everyone but you is already moved on with their lives. This is the time when you will have to work, day by day, at living your life without your pet. While some believe that the stages of grief end with acceptance and closure, we believe that the "stages" of grief only lead to the four stages of healing. Referred to by many as the TEAR stages, these are the stages that one passes through gradually as they rebuild their lives without their pet. Oddly enough, the healing stages begin with the last "stage" of grieving - acceptance. The TEAR stages of healing are:

To accept the reality of the loss.
Experience the pain of the loss.
Adjust to our environment without our pet.
Re-invest in the new reality of life without our pet.

I am soooo sorry about what happend I would've died inside, but there is a way to get over it. You could get a new kitten in memory of your other cat, you'll love that one sooo much that it will make you feel better about the other cat by making your new cat the happiest cat in the world. Good luck!=)
