The answer can be "just about any wine." It all depends on what you're serving.
For an aperitif, or to serve with cheese and crackers or black grapes and cheese or even apples and cheese, then I'd recommend a gewurtztraminer, which is white and fruity without being sweet (like a riesling is sweet).
However, if you prefer sweet and are going to serve slightly-to-spicy appetizers, then definitely go with the riesling, which can be fairly inexpensive; gewurtztraminers are a bit more but worth it.
If you're serving a supper such as a roast chicken with vegetables and / or a crisp salad, then I'd recommend, again, a gewurtztraminer for the fruity taste, or a sauvignon blanc if you prefer a drier white.
Dessert: pie or cake with ice cream? or just ice cream? There are dessert brandies that go very well with ice cream -- meaning poured directly on a scoop of vanilla. A peach or blackberry dessert brandy over vanilla ice cream could work very well indeed and might be worth a try.
A final note: for romantic suppers, stay away from foods that are heavy (such as roasts), too complex or spicy. Stay away from strong garlic and/or onions. Whatever you serve, be courteous to your guest and stage a small bottle of mouthwash in the bathroom. You'll both be grateful.
Good luck.

A dessert wine is usually sweeter. My all time favorite wine is a German type wine called 'Piesporter'. I love it. Some people really like it and others say it's too sweet. It is not like a white Zin sweet, you have to try it. It's about $7.00 a bottle and up.
For the non- expert wine drinker and dessert, I would say it's a good choice.

Bonny Doon has a Framboise dessert wine, which is very reasonably priced and delicious (if you like raspberries), especially with a chocolate souffle or torte.
For a fun twist, Toad Hollow Vineyards makes an engaging sparkling wine called Risque. It is crisp, moderately sweet and has notes of pear and a hint of honey. It is delicious on its own and the label is a conversation piece itself, a dancing frog in a flapper dress.

If both of you dont know too much about wines, I would suggest buying a moderate to expensive wine, if you want to make an impression, and remember don't get too drunk on your first date with your boyfriend He will respect you a lot more in the future And belive me if someday you both get serious youll both remember your first date! Good Luck

I think an asti spumante might be the wine for you. This is a sparkling wine....the bubbles are romantic. Spumante is a sweet wine. Ballatore Spumante is readily available for less than $10 a bottle.
Cheers!

I would concentrate on the type of wine more than the brand. The brand won't make much difference if someone doesn't care for the type.
But for romance, I would go with champagne. Best you can afford.
