Fact is, this proposal had been brought up before. However the engineering cost will be very high and it will not be easy for the Thai government to go alone. Further, the impact will be regional, not just Singapore in your assumption. The immediate neighbour of Malaysia and even Indonesia will be affected as well.

So with many considerations and factors in mind, the Thai government has let this issue rest for now. Who knows, maybe someone will bring this up again in the future. Maybe you to them?

the Thais don't want to piss off the government of Singapore by building the canal.
