Put a number in box A1
Put a number in box A2
Click in box A3
type "=A1-A2"
(you don't type the question marks, just what is inside them)
Hit enter

Enter an item in A1 and another in A2
Then in A3 (or any field where you want the result to be displayed) type
=A1-A2

= is to do calculations in excel sheets.
If you want to learn more about it, click on "fx" displayed near the formula bar it will pop up a window where you can learn more.

hi friend,

To subtract the items(nothing but CELLS in excel language) you simply apply this formula . For Example you want to subtract the value which is in "c4"(cell number){where c is column number & 4 is row number} from "b4"{same as above} you simply apply this. "=b4-c4". then enter. so you can get the result. ok. Actually your question is not clear. if you want any formula in excel you just contact me.

write this formulae in the formulae bar
=SUM(A2-A1)
where A1 is the cell whose contents you want to subtract from cell A2.
