I support the rights of citizens, naturalised or native born . Legal aliens have a status of their own. As far as SS payments are concerned, it may be a price you pay for doing business here, or working here. I think the benifits are for citizens but I am not an authority on this. As far as I'm concerned, if you pay, you should receive. What's broken? SS is about bankrupt any way because fed. gov. borrows from it to pay for all kinds of things. It may not be there for anybody in 20 years, but we all pay.
I hope they ( legal immigrants) support themselves, because I expect I am going to have to support myself.

Of course I support legal immigrants. Why wouldn't I ?Legal Americans must have at least 40 work credits to get any social security benefits when they retire.I think a legal immigrant should get the same if they have the credits also.I don't think that any illegal immigrant deserves or should get any SS benefits no matter how much they paid into it.Why should they if they don't have the legal right to work here in the first place ?Legal immigrants deserve to get the benefits if they have the credits.I agree if illegals aren't given amnesty I would push that bill to help legal immigrants.

Well no sh!t! You've got to be an illegal not to.
That however, is not the issue... And I think you are aware of this.. The issue here is il-legal.. I do NOT support them.
And the lady that has SS benefits-- that is.. a legal immigrant.. I'm a disabled vet, and have been turned down by every govt. org except the VA..
And even that took awhile... Perhaps you should expand your knowledge as well...
As for you "Purple," It's a good thing that isn't in play yet.. Simply because those living here unaccounted for is commiting a crime-- to be on their record. So, I suppose I can agree with you to an extent... but to tweak it a bit:
You can live here in America only if you have not commited a felony/ are not currently commiting a crime, such as illegally entering the country.

Most Americans do support legal immigrants, like yourself. It is the illegals that we have problems with.
The system does need to be seriously fixed. If they don't give illegals benefits and amnesty then I'll support it. I also hope that they change system for legal immigrants

What do you mean by "legals don't get the social security benefits"? They do. I am a legal immigrant and I don't suffer from the system at all. All other legals that I know don't suffer from it either. Maybe you need to familiarize yourself more with many ways the system works.

Nancy D has it wrong. The LEGAL immigrants work harder, do more and get much less benefits. ILLEGAL immigrants can ( and do) get benefits that legal ones can't. To become a Citizen of this country takes a very long time. And there are many things to learn. A Naturalized Citizen of this country knows more about this country, it's history, and it's government than anyone born here.
As far as the system goes, it does need to be changed.

You are actually suffering more than we born citizens are because of those who short-cut illegally and overload the system. You should be protesting to every one in sight much harder than we. If illegals march through US streets with the flag of another nation, protesting, you should not support such actions in any way.
The system isn't really broken. It was never set up to process a million legal and Illegal immigrants a year.

Yes, I support LEGAL immigrants, completely. However, I give absolutely NO support to ILLEGAL immigrants. I will agree with you that our immigration system is in need of a big overhaul and the laws need to be updated and there needs to be a way to streamline processes more.
However, before we can do this, I believe it is essential to try the best we can to seal up the borders to stop further incoming illegals and also find a way to follow-up with visitor and work visas to ensure that people are leaving when their time is up. Until that time, I think immigration needs to be put on hold, entirely, while we seal up the borders and deal with the illegals presently in the country.
I do not buy that we cannot deport all illegals presently in the country - yes, we can! Over time, it can be done. And, if we put a big hammer down on all employers of illegals, and I mean BIG TIME, and stopped ALL social benefits, education, medical care for illegals, and removed the "anchor baby" legislation from the books, I guarantee MOST illegals would self-deport before long. Once that was all taken care of, then we could overhaul the Immigration department and update and streamline things and re-start the program.
We need to stop bandying around so much as a hint of amnesty because this just raises hopes and increases illegal immigration. NO AMNESTY TO ANY ILLEGALS, is the only right way to go. NO EXCEPTIONS! There should be a deal wherein if all illegals currently in the country are offered the chance to "self deport" and return to their own countries at their own expense and apply legally, then they will get some sort of priority status for coming clean and leaving without costing the citizens for their deportation, so long as they have not committed any other crimes while in the country, such as identity fraud or any other criminal activities. I know this would mean that those who know they would not qualify (due to criminal activities or contagious diseases, etc.) would not leave of their own accord, but they would be smoked out, eventually, when employers no longer hire them, when they can no longer get any kind of social benefits, and when even having babies in the country does not give their babies US citizenship, etc. They would be found when they eventually go for medical treatment as they would be deported as soon as emergency treatment is given. They would be found out eventually for using fraudulent SSNs and would be deported immediately. They would be found out with routine road checks or being pulled over for driving infractions, and deported immegiately.
It would take some time, but word would eventually spread throughout the community of potential future illegal immigrants and they would, for the most part, stop coming. But the important thing is, we have to be firm and with NO exceptions - no exceptions for hard luck, twist your heart stories, etc. And, the upside is that their countries would be forced to start looking after their own poor and stop expecting the overly generous citizens of the USA to do that for them. This would cause changes for the good in their countries, in the long run.

I hate how things are changing because of people coming into North America (eg. No more Halloween at school or Christmas)
But yes, I support legal immigrants

Well, I have to agree that it really isn't fair to the people that have lived in this country all their lives and struggle daily; while they get minimum Social Security and poor health benefits; while the "legal" immigrant can come in here and get just as much or even more than them. If they work hard and live here, I guess they're entitled to it, but it still "gets under my skin" a little.
