Examples of items with typical min & max %

Beer : Most light beer 2% - Belgium Ale 11%
Wine : Champagne 8% - Red Wine 14%
Liquor : Baileys 17% - Barcardi 151 Rum 75%

Actually you can get anything ranging from 0.5% for "non-alcoholic" beer all the way to 95% "grain alcohol" at some liquor stores.

Straight whiskey must be made from at least 51 pecent of a grain, must not exceed 160 proof (80 percent alcohol), must be aged in oak barrels for 2 years, and may only be diluted by the addition of water to no less than 80 proof.

BEER-- a generic term for low-alcohol beverages brewed from a MASH of malted barleyand other cereals (like corn, rye, or wheat), flavored with HOPS, and fermented with yeast. During fermentation the yeast sinks to the bottom of the tank. (Bock beer, Lager, Malt Liquor, Pilsner, and Vienna Beer.)

ALES--- Top-fermented beer. (the yeast rises to the top of the tank.) Types would be Porters, Stouts, and Wheat Beers.

There is some of the information I think you were looking for.

Lite Beer refers to a brew with reduced calories and usually less alcohol. But in Europe it is used to distinquish between pale and dark lagers.
