Everyday, some where in this country, a court case is heard regarding disagreement with an exec tor as to a decision they made. They must make those decisions in accordance with the perceived wishes of the decedent and the desires of the beneficiaries while remaining within the law. That can be a tough order.

Not quite! You have the authority (and responsibility) to discharge the estate according to the wishes of the decedent and the laws of the jurisdiction where they died, with the approval of the courts.
