Who told you six lumbar vertebrae cause pain? I am a retired Chiropractor. I treated many patients with low back pain and a 'sixth lumbar vertebra' and most of them became pain free. Therefore, that vertebra was not the cause of pain (it was still there after successful treatment!). I have never seen a research or medical paper that demonstrated that this condition can cause pain. So, ask whoever told you that that is the cause of your pain to show you the research that proves their belief.

Frankly, it sounds like you found someone who is not an expert in diagnosing and treating back pain and that person is just blaming your pain on 'what ever the x-ray showed'. (Note: you can't see pain on an x-ray, cat-scan, MRI, or other diagnostic imaging test.)

Best wishes and good luck. You may want to get another 'opinion' about the cause of your back pain.
