That depends on the Iraqi government and the Iraqi people. They both need to stand up for their country and make it secure. Their inability to stop the violence is the only thing keeping our troops there. If I were an Iraqi citizen, who voted for a democratic government, I would be pissed if my neighbors were trying to screw it up by blowing up their fellow countrymen. Living in fear from thugs like that can only last so long.

Either they stand up and make it stop, or I think our troops should stop playing the role of the "nice guy", and actually start fighting back no holds barred.

quite simply no... i think there will be more accountability now, but a change in congress i don't think will lead to an immediate withdraw. There is really no way we can leave the country unless we want it to fall into civil war (which it may anyway), and i don't think anyone wants that. I would like to see a UN peace keeping force step in, but the UN does not want to take on the problem. Maybe eventually NATO will step in like they did in Afghanistan, but the country is just not any where near stable enough for us to leave, and both dems and gops know that.

i think the most we can hope for is:
improved public image (or an attempt)
more money accountability (maybe it won't cost us 6 million a day or w/e)
and change in strategy with rumsfelds step down

Bush has stated that their will be a gradual pull out. He can not pull out all of the troops at once it would be chaos. Almost any soldier is glad to be over there and making a difference. My boyfriend is over there. But their will be a gradual pull out.

Ask a soldier what they think and they will back our President...So what do you think if we don't stay then "they" will be in our back yards bombing our lovely country......

It is more likely now that it was before the election. It is also a good sign that Rumsfeld is gone. However, we have destabilized Iraq to the point where it would collapse if we withdrew immediately. So don't expect it to happen overnight.
