It's a new one on Me.....besides,"Robot" as a word has only been around since a Czech SciFi writer,Karel Äapek came up with it in the 20's (?)-It's derived from the word for Work,Robota,so it's been around in that form for a long time (centuries!)

I don't think it's Old English.The word 'robot' was created by Karel Capek to designate artificially created mechanical workmen that appeared in his play"R.U.R" in 1921.He attributed it to his brother,Josef.
