Thanks John H, but I was raised neurotic Mennonite...but I will allow you to make another assumption. You do know that assuming leads to assumptions, don't you?

This is an excellent question. I hope people take it seriously instead of getting really defensive. I agree with you, the Truth is that nobody knows. In my lifetime, I've been a hardcore Christian and Atheist and neither extreme made me feel any closer to the Truth. I believe people put God into the unknown spaces in their lives, but I think that ever since I've admitted that I don't know the real answers, my fear has faded and I feel much more honest.

Mmmmyes, it's because people need to believe that there's a reason for everything that they don't understand. Don't have the answer... well, then God does, so believe in him. He has a plan. Or something like that, I guess, okay, I don't know cuz the only thing I'm confident that I do know is that no one really knows, which definitely includes me, if you know what I mean. :)

haha..assuming...assumptions...nice! anyway to answer ur question i think sometimes ppl just by convention because they weer raised that way believe it, other have had deep spiritual experiences, and others just feel they know....me on the other hand i just say "gosh, i just dont have all the answers"
I asked a girl once if she thought god existed (she was a religious jew) and she said "no i dont THINK G-d exists, I KNOW he does" and then i said how do u know its he? mind u i do type G-d with a dash instea dof writting out 'his' name. Convention? or do i subconciousley know it...

When one spends an inordinate amount of time wondering about the basic purpose of Life, the Universe, and Everything, the answer "Forty-Two" just doesn't cut it. As for myself- gosh, I just don't have all the answers. But my curiosity doesn't exactly let me leave it at that and let it go. Hence, my belief in God.

Any answer (regardless of whether it's right or wrong) can be satisfying to an individual, calming him/her down, releasing endorphins in the brain--if finding the answer was challenging-- and allowing the person to move on to other quests.

There is satisfaction in knowing... regardless if what you know is false... as long as you believe it's true. Human nature.

They feel that if god is on their side then they are right. This is a state of fearing the unknown. If they allowed themselves to feel The Truth they would Know sometimes there are no anwers.
