Does your child show complete comprehension? For instance if you ask them what the square or root of something is can he/she tell you? If you ask something simple like what what is 3 +5. Can she then proceed to give you the number in various items. When she does the alphabet can she say them backward and forward? Can she point out a letter and tell you the sound it makes and what words begin with that letter? It's all well an good if she can mimic but can she actually comprehend?
The schools will test them when they show signs of being gifted.
I had a son who was doing tesselations in the 1st grade. He won his first regional science fair in the second grade and continued. He played music etc...
He was gifted but he wasn't by any means a genius. Talk with your pediatrician.

All parents think their child is a genius. You will know if other parents and teachers tell you your child is a genius.

They'll come up behind you and say "Hey, mom, you left a word out of that sentance."
Seriously, if you think your child is gifted, I think there are IQ tests that can be given. Also, you can try and teach him or her things like letter, colors, and numbers. Then when they are in school or pre-school, the teachers could reccomend advanced placement if necesary.

In each and every way aren't all children geniuses. Think about it, before the age of 5 each and every child learns more in this time than the rest of their lives.
Take the time to enjoy the child for who they are, not what you want them to be
