Now, he and I love each othr very much, but he likes to pick on me about my smoking and othr things that he can just find to picccccck about! I want to defend myself against him, but not turn this into a fight. How???

just try it for a week and then smell someone who smokes

This is passive aggressive behavior - and it's mean. If he knows it bothers you and he keeps doing it then it's abusive. You want someone who will love you "as is" - not as he thinks you "should be." You are a terrific person. I would advise you to quit smoking, for your own benefit - but I would never tease you and pick on you about it. That's just some added words of wisdom!
