The soreness is because you have literally ripped your muscles. this is a good thing if you want to gain muscle but you should eat protein which will help repair and build up your muscles, it gets better after a week, they only hurt for a few hours and not days
Edit - umm all the people above me are wrong, lol. if you are lifting weights you want to tear your muscles once this happens they repair themselves like welding but each time you do it you are building/growing more muscle its a good thing, i love that feeling, i know then i am getting stronger but it isnt so bad after 2 weeks or so.

It could be a little of both. Muscle pain is a result of microscopic tears in the muscle fibers. As the tissue rebuilds, it "steps up" to the challenge and becomes stronger by adapting to the new load. Pain levels differ for different people, so you are the best judge of whether or not it is tolerable. You should never experience sharp pains during or after exercising. Overloading the muscle too much, too soon can lead to injuries. Be sure to rest at least a day or two between workouts and always warm-up beforehand and cool down afterward. Drink water (lots of water!) to flush the toxins from your body and be smart about the workouts (use proper form and never rush a movement). Best of luck and congratulations on your decision to become a healthier you!

There's a difference between a little pain after working out or while you're stretching your muscles and pain that's indicating something is wrong. You should be able to differentiate between them. The good kind of pain is the pain you feel during a deep massage. It feels good yet it does hurt at the same time. Bad pain is the kind that makes you cry out or freeze. That pain means "stop what you're doing!" After you work out and you are sore, it is due to lactic acid building up in your muscles as they work. So yes, soreness is quite normal. If you are so sore that working out the next day really hurts, give your body a rest. Just...stay in touch with your body and listen to it. It's telling you everything you need to know!

Your just working muscles that probably haven't been worked out in awhile and yes they will be sore until you've done the workout for awhile. you have to get your muscles used to it, then the soreness will ease up and finally go away. Always make sure your doing the exercise right, remember to breath right too.

Its a sign that your muscles are adapting to the new program that you're giving it. The soreness will pass, just remember to stretch before and after each workout. Eventually the soreness will only occur when you are doing "max weight" on your routines. As folks say, "And this to shall pass."

well it seems as though this is the first time you have done hard core exercise...your muscles and body are just a little strained after the 'all of a sudden dose of exercise'.you;ll know if you are working too hard is there is sharp pain when you are exercising...but dint worry, its just the way your body is reacting after the exercise
the no pain no gain thign isnt ALWAYS true!
hope this helps!

you will always be sore after a good workout... but if you are really sore it means one of two things: one, you didnt stretch before you worked out or two, you didnt stretch after. it also helps to warm up with lighter weight.

means you have not really warmed up yet that is why your body released lactic acid (i think)w/c caused the sore muscles.when engaging in exercise you have to warm up and cool down
