hi kamikaze, When I get a virus it often begins in some part of my body that either has damage or was hurt in the past. A virus comes on very quickly unlike the slow progress of a bacterial infection. The fact that no recent activity precipitated your serious symptoms and the pain is uni-lateral tells me you need to do three things before paying a doc. Drink extra fluids that contain no caffeine, spend time with your legs above your heart each day (sleeping doesn't count unless your legs are above your heart) without strain on the knees, take a pain reliever to ease your pain but don't increase your activity 'till you feel better. If it is a virus you may feel worse now, get going on the fluids. Take good care of yourself.

Could be a pinced nerve or your feet are out of line. I had the same problem not too long ago. Went to a chiro, got an adjustment and the pain went away. I am not sure how you feel about chrios, but i would at least give them a chance.

It sounds like it could be your sciatic nerve. It runs from your low back to your big toe. It splits at your knee into two nerves so it coudl be either one causing your pain. The nerve is a nasty one and you could have done something as simple as slept the wrong way or turned your leg in a weird position to get it inflammed or pinched. They will probably want to send you to physical therapy, but it is my suggestion to see a good massage therapist who specializes in medical massage. They will be able to free it up a lot faster for you. Good luck!

If the pain is severe, you should treat yourself for shock.
Loosen all clothing lay on your back, and elevate your feet with a pillow, see your doctor ASAP.
