My boyfriend has short spiked hair that he puts gel in to keep it standing up. He's not in the military so its just his preference. He's in his early 30's and has been wearing it that way for a long time. I would really like to see him change it but I don't want to hurt his feelings or seem insensitive. He is so handsome except for the hair.

Just bring it up. If you're watching a movie or TV, and there's a guy with long hair, talk about it and how you want to see what he looks like with long hair.. I agree that you shouldn't tell him you don't like his spiked hair, but hint around at how much you like long hair.
You can also just flat-out ask him if he's ever thought about growing out his hair, and remind him that it's just hair and if he grows it out and doesn't like it, he can always cut it.

I hinted around to my boyfriend about this same thing, and he grew out his hair. It didn't last long because it got on his nerves, but he did do it. I just told him that I wanted to know what he looked like with longer hair and that I thought it would look hot, and he did it.

Just tell him you would like to see him with longer hair. It's not necessary to tell im how much you dislike it as it is now.

tell him your other boyfriends used to wear their hair the same way, and tell him how sexy longer hair is and what it does for you
