where can I find a mechanics set?

I have joined Science Olympiad and need to construct a Rube Goldberg like device. For this I need a mechanics kit. I need something strong and sturdy. I do not want any legos or K'nex. Is there any other mechanic set avaliable. -If you know the name please tell me and also where it is avaliable.

You mean Mission Possible? Well I'm not in the event, but our teammembers use a chock full of K'nex pieces and dominoes and hot glue. Plus mouse traps too.
